Use Pinterest to Plan your Next Event

This year is unusual in that about half my clients do not live here but are planning to hold an event in this area. They need to choose florists and bakers, decide on event decor and more. Enter Pinterest. My clients can create a board on Pinterest, then pin their favorite items and send me the link. I can then print pictures of their favorite dessert, decor, centerpieces and bouquets and share them with local merchants. We schedule a conference call with the client to go over the details and - presto - that portion of their planning is complete. Clients have been very happy with the results.

If a client is concerned about the ability or creativity of a recommended vendor, they can visit the vendor's Pinterest page to see examples of completed work, putting their mind at ease. (Vendors, you do have a board, right?)

Pinterest is also a great place for those who do not consider themselves to be creative to find ideas they can copy or modify. Looking for a fabulous cake for mom and dad's 50th anniversary? Pinterest contains many. Want to use orange and lime green decor? Look for examples on Pinterest. Want a fabulous recipe? Yes, it will be there too.

So what exactly is Pinterest? It is a website where people share just about everything, from recipes to home decor and landscaping to the latest fashions. After creating an account, one can peruse posts, called "pins," on any topic of interest and then "repin" their favorites to their own board. According to Pinterest statistics, about 80 percent of pins are actually repins of someone else's posts. Most pins are photos to which the original poster can add comments to explain the item or project. Those who repin a photo can also add their comments, which are then visible to anyone who views their board.

For merchants, having an account and pinning photos of their most popular items or completed projects can draw new business to a website or a store. It is also an excellent and inexpensive way to increase a business's marketing and on-line presence. Memory Makers has a Pinterest page. Do you?
