Have a Closet Full of Formal Wear? Donate It and Help Someone in Need

Is your closet overflowing with prom dresses, bridesmaids dresses or cocktail attire that no longer fits or you will never again wear? If so, you might donate them and make someone less fortunate very happy. You can even take a tax deduction for your generosity. In southwestern Idaho Dresstravaganza (www.facebook.com/dresstravaganza) accepts prom dress donations at the Van Heusen store at the Boise Outlet Mall. Call or text 208-297-3332 or email dresstravaganza@gmail.com for details.

The Assistance League of Boise accepts donations for their Cinderella's Closet program.  Both prom dresses and tuxedos are rented, rather than sold, for $15 each. The service is available only to students living in Ada County. The store is located at 5831 Glenwood Street, across from Hawk's Stadium.

If you have a wedding gown to donate, check Donate My Wedding Dress (donatemyweddingdress.org) to find a list of charities your generosity can benefit. They include Brides Against Breast Cancer, Brides for Haiti (which also accepts prom dresses), the Arthritis Foundation and more.

Girls from lower income families and exchange students who need appropriate attire for homecoming or prom, girls planning a quinceanera and others will benefit from your generosity and you will have room to spare in your closet. It's spring cleaning time, so let's help out while cleaning out.
